Very High Frequency (VHF)
FM radio (87.5–108 MHz) · VHF TV (54–216 MHz) · Air traffic control (108–137 MHz)
| Frequency Range | 30–300 MHz |
| Wavelength | 1–10 m |
| ITU / Standard | ITU Band 8 |
Applications
- →FM radio (87.5–108 MHz)
- →VHF TV (54–216 MHz)
- →Air traffic control (108–137 MHz)
- →Marine VHF (156–174 MHz)
- →Amateur 2m band (144–148 MHz)
Propagation Characteristics
Primarily line-of-sight. Tropospheric ducting can extend range. Sporadic-E propagation enables unexpected long-distance contacts at lower VHF.
Regulatory Notes
FM broadcast: 87.5–108 MHz. Aviation: 108–137 MHz. Amateur 2m: 144–148 MHz (US), 144–146 MHz (EU).
