A cookie is a small file a site stores in your browser. Sites also store data in your browser in other ways — local storage and session storage — which do the same kind of job and are covered here too.
Everything below was observed on a live page of this site. Items marked signed in appear only once you hold an account and are signed in.
2. Strictly necessary
These are needed for functions you have asked for. Without them the Service does not work. They are set by us and are not used for tracking.
| Name | Purpose | Type | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
rfcalc_tokens | Keeps you signed in — holds your Amazon Cognito session tokens (signed in) | Local storage | Until you sign out |
rfcalc_user | Caches your account email and tier so pages do not have to re-fetch them (signed in) | Local storage | Until you sign out |
theme | Remembers whether you chose light or dark | Local storage | Until you clear it |
rfcalc-history-{calculator} | Remembers recent input values on a calculator you used, so they are there when you return | Local storage | Until you clear it |
rftools_recent_calcs | The recently-viewed list in the navigation | Local storage | Until you clear it |
rfcalc-favorites | Calculators you marked as favourites (signed in) | Local storage | Until you clear it |
rfcalc_active_job:{tool} | Lets a running simulation be picked up again if you reload or come back later | Local storage | Until the job finishes |
pcb-stackup-state | Your working state in the PCB stack-up builder | Local storage | Until you clear it |
rftools_voted | Which calculator requests you have voted on, so you are not asked twice | Local storage | Until you clear it |
3. Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages and calculators are used. It is not used to identify you.
| Name | Purpose | Set by | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Distinguishes one browser from another | 2 years | |
_ga_KJ6397010K | Keeps analytics session state for this site's property | 2 years |
Google's handling of the data is described in Google's privacy policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics in every site you visit with Google's opt-out add-on.
4. Advertising
The Service shows advertising through Google AdSense, which pays for the free tier. Paid subscribers do not see ads.
| Name | Purpose | Set by | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
__gads | Ad selection and frequency capping | Up to 13 months | |
__gpi | Ad personalisation and measurement | Up to 13 months | |
__eoi | Ad fraud and abuse detection | Up to 6 months | |
google_adsense_settings | AdSense configuration for this site | Persistent | |
google_ama_config | Ad placement configuration | Persistent | |
FCCDCF | Records your choice in Google's consent message | Up to 13 months | |
FCNEC | Supporting record for that choice | Up to 13 months |
5. Session recording
We use LogRocket to record sessions, so that when something breaks we can see what actually happened rather than guessing. A recording covers pages visited, clicks, navigation and network activity, and depending on the page may capture what you type into a form. Passwords are masked by the recorder.
| Name | Purpose | Set by | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
_lr_hb_-ywwokw%2Frftools | Detects whether the recorder is running | LogRocket | Session |
_lr_tabs_-ywwokw%2Frftools | Ties activity in multiple tabs to one session | LogRocket | Session |
_lr_id_ | Identifies the recorded session | LogRocket | Local storage, persistent |
__lr_navigation_history_v1 | Page-to-page path within the session | LogRocket | Session storage |
cdn.logr-in.com in your browser or a content blocker, or object under section 9 of the Privacy Policy.6. What consent is and is not asked for
This section says plainly where things stand, because a vague answer here is worse than an inconvenient one.
Advertising. For visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, Google's consent message — Google Funding Choices — is presented before personalised advertising cookies are used, and your choice is recorded inFCCDCF and FCNEC. You can change it later at Google Ad Settings.
Analytics and session recording. These are not gated by that message and are not subject to a separate consent banner of ours. Google Analytics and LogRocket load when you open the site. We rely on legitimate interests for both, as set out in section 4 of the Privacy Policy, and you may object at any time.
We are working on extending consent to cover analytics and session recording. Until that is done, the position is as described above and the controls in section 7 are what is available to you.
7. How to control these
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Every major browser lets you block third-party cookies, delete what a site has stored, or refuse cookies from a specific site. Blocking the strictly necessary items in section 2 will sign you out and lose your saved preferences, but nothing else breaks.
- Clear local and session storage — in most browsers, under the same privacy settings, or through developer tools for a single site.
- Turn off ad personalisation at Google Ad Settings.
- Opt out of Google Analytics everywhere with Google's add-on.
- Stop session recording by blocking
cdn.logr-in.com. - Use a content blocker — the analytics, advertising and session-recording items above are all blocked by common blocking lists, and the Service works with them blocked.
- Object directly by emailing
contact@rftools.io.
