Audio SNR & Dynamic Range
POSThttps://rftools.io/ api/ py/ v1/ calculate
Slug audio-snr. Calculate audio SNR and dynamic range. 16-bit audio = 98 dB, 24-bit = 146 dB theoretical SNR. Formula: SNR = 6.02·N + 1.76 dB. Enter bit depth or signal/noise levels in dBV.
Inputs
Send every one of these in inputs, in the units shown. Most are required: a call without one is refused (400) and costs nothing; one the calculator can do without takes the default shown. An input outside its range is still computed and flagged in the provenance.
| Name | Unit | Range | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| signalLevelnumber | dBV | −80 … 30 | 0 | Signal Level |
| noiseFloornumber | dBV | −140 … 0 | -90 | Noise Floor |
| targetSnrnumber | dB | 0 … 160 | 90 | The signal-to-noise ratio the chain must reach. The status fails below 60 dB. |
Outputs
Returned in values, by key. A value that is unbounded or undefined is null.
| Field | Unit | Description |
|---|---|---|
| snrheadline | dB | SNR |
| dynamicRange | dB | Span from noise floor to 0 dBFS maximum level |
| snrLinear | :1 | SNR (linear voltage ratio) |
| noiseBits | bits | Effective Noise Bits |
Calling it
- Calculate: one call, the request and response in full, and its errors.
- Batch: this calculator with others, or a sweep, in one request.
- Solve for a target: the value of one input that brings an output to a target.
