AWG Wire Gauge Calculator
POSThttps://rftools.io/ api/ py/ v1/ calculate
Slug awg-wire. Convert AWG wire gauge to diameter (mm/inches), cross-sectional area (mm²), resistance per meter, and approximate current carrying capacity.
Inputs
Send every one of these in inputs, in the units shown. Most are required: a call without one is refused (400) and costs nothing; one the calculator can do without takes the default shown. An input outside its range is still computed and flagged in the provenance.
| Name | Unit | Range | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| awgnumber | AWG | 0 … 40 | 24 | American Wire Gauge number. Lower number = thicker wire. |
Outputs
Returned in values, by key. A value that is unbounded or undefined is null.
| Field | Unit | Description |
|---|---|---|
| diameterMmheadline | mm | Wire conductor diameter in millimeters |
| diameterIn | in | Wire conductor diameter in inches |
| areaMm2 | mm² | Conductor cross-sectional area in mm² |
| resistance20C | mΩ/m | DC resistance per meter at 20°C for copper conductor |
| currentCapacity | A | Approximate current capacity for chassis wiring (free air). Derate 40–50% in conduit. |
Calling it
- Calculate: one call, the request and response in full, and its errors.
- Batch: this calculator with others, or a sweep, in one request.
- Solve for a target: the value of one input that brings an output to a target.
