Crystal Load Capacitance Calculator
POSThttps://rftools.io/ api/ py/ v1/ calculate
Slug crystal-load-capacitance. Calculate actual load capacitance seen by a crystal oscillator, estimate frequency error from spec, and find recommended external capacitor values.
Inputs
Send every one of these in inputs, in the units shown. Most are required: a call without one is refused (400) and costs nothing; one the calculator can do without takes the default shown. An input outside its range is still computed and flagged in the provenance.
| Name | Unit | Range | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| clnumber | pF | 1 … 100 | 18 | Crystal specified load capacitance from datasheet |
| cstraynumber | pF | 0 … 50 | 3 | PCB stray/parasitic capacitance including IC input capacitance |
| c1number | pF | 0.1 … 1000 | 22 | External capacitor 1 (C1 = C2 is typical for symmetric layout) |
| c2number | pF | 0.1 … 1000 | 22 | External capacitor 2 |
| eSeriesnumber | none | 0 … 96 | 0 | Rounds every part to the nearest value in the series; the response and the export are the rounded design's. |
Outputs
Returned in values, by key. A value that is unbounded or undefined is null.
| Field | Unit | Description |
|---|---|---|
| clActualheadline | pF | Actual load capacitance presented to the crystal: (C1||C2) + Cstray |
| clError | pF | Difference between actual and specified load capacitance |
| freqError | ppm | Approximate frequency error due to load capacitance mismatch |
| c_recommended | pF | Recommended value for each external capacitor (C1 = C2) to hit the specified load capacitance |
Calling it
- Calculate: one call, the request and response in full, and its errors.
- Batch: this calculator with others, or a sweep, in one request.
- Solve for a target: the value of one input that brings an output to a target.
