Half-Wave Dipole Antenna Calculator
POSThttps://rftools.io/ api/ py/ v1/ calculate
Slug dipole-antenna. Calculate dipole antenna length for any frequency — enter MHz, get half-wave and quarter-wave dimensions in mm. Includes gain (2.15 dBi), radiation resistance (73 Ω), and 50 Ω VSWR. Supports velocity factor for insulated wire.
Inputs
Send every one of these in inputs, in the units shown. Most are required: a call without one is refused (400) and costs nothing; one the calculator can do without takes the default shown. An input outside its range is still computed and flagged in the provenance.
| Name | Unit | Range | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| frequencynumber | MHz | 1 … 6000 | 433 | Operating frequency in MHz |
| velocityFactornumber | none | 0.5 … 1 | 0.97 | Free space ≈ 0.97; with insulation ~0.95 |
Outputs
Returned in values, by key. A value that is unbounded or undefined is null.
| Field | Unit | Description |
|---|---|---|
| halfWaveLength_mmheadline | mm | Total dipole length for half-wave resonance |
| quarterWaveLength_mm | mm | Each dipole arm length (quarter wavelength) |
| gainDbi | dBi | Theoretical gain of half-wave dipole (2.15 dBi) |
| inputImpedance_ohm | Ω | Centre-fed radiation resistance ≈ 73.1 Ω |
| feedpointVswr_50 | :1 | VSWR when fed directly with 50Ω coax (no matching) |
| lambda_m | m | Free-Space Wavelength |
Calling it
- Calculate: one call, the request and response in full, and its errors.
- Batch: this calculator with others, or a sweep, in one request.
- Solve for a target: the value of one input that brings an output to a target.
