Component Marking Codes

Decode SMD resistor and capacitor marking codes. Searchable lookup tables for 3-digit, 4-digit, EIA-96 resistor codes and ceramic/film capacitor markings.

About Component Marking Codes

Surface-mount device (SMD) components use compact marking codes due to their small size. Understanding these codes is essential for circuit assembly, repair, and inventory management.

SMD Resistor Codes

SMD resistors typically use one of three marking systems: 3-digit codes (E24 series, 5% tolerance),4-digit codes (E96 series, 1% tolerance), or EIA-96 codes (alphanumeric, 1% tolerance). The "R" character indicates the decimal point position in low-value resistors.

Capacitor Codes

Ceramic and film capacitors use 3-digit codes where the first two digits are significant figures and the third digit is the multiplier (power of 10 in picofarads). Additional letter codes indicate voltage rating, tolerance, and temperature coefficient (dielectric type).
