Shielding Effectiveness Calculator

POSThttps://rftools.io/api/py/v1/calculate

Slug shielding-effectiveness. Calculate electromagnetic shielding effectiveness, absorption loss, reflection loss, and skin depth. Evaluate enclosure materials with the plane-wave model of Ott (2009, ch. 6) and LearnEMC.

Inputs

Send every one of these in inputs, in the units shown. Most are required: a call without one is refused (400) and costs nothing; one the calculator can do without takes the default shown. An input outside its range is still computed and flagged in the provenance.

Inputs of shielding-effectiveness
NameUnitRangeDefaultDescription
frequencynumberMHzat least 0.0011000Frequency
thicknessnumbermmat least 0.0011Shield Thickness
conductivitynumberMS/mat least 0.00159.6Conductivity
permeabilitynumbernoneat least 11Relative Permeability
targetSEnumberdB0 … 20040The shielding effectiveness the enclosure must reach. The status fails below 20 dB.

Outputs

Returned in values, by key. A value that is unbounded or undefined is null.

multipleReflectionLossdBB = 20·log₁₀|1 − Γ²·e^(−2γt)|: negative for a shield only a few skin depths thick, negligible once A exceeds about 10 dB

Calling it

  • Calculate: one call, the request and response in full, and its errors.
  • Batch: this calculator with others, or a sweep, in one request.
  • Solve for a target: the value of one input that brings an output to a target.
